Dr. Berg has been practicing family and occupational medicine
since 1979. Since 1985, his practice has centered around
the
treatment of the occupationally injured worker. His focus
has been on getting injured workers well as soon as possible
and returning them to either Modified or Regular work duty.
Despite many of the problems that
occur in treating the injured worker, Dr. Berg has diligently
worked to bring all involved parties together in this process.
This frequently has involved Dr. Berg's holding of the patient's
hand, as well as that of the employer and the workman's compensation
adjuster/nurse case manager. This delicate balance of health
care delivery goes far beyond the science of medicine and
has required Dr. Berg to appreciate the variety of dynamics
that occur when treating the injured worker.
With the recent
changes incorporated into the Calfornia Workman's Compensation
system, Dr. Berg has been able to share ACOEM guidelines
with
his patients and is using this data to help control the costs
of the delivery of health care to his patients.
Dr. Berg
has served as a District Office Consultant to the State
Compensation Insurance Fund since 1989. This additional
consulting work has provided Dr. Berg with
insight and knowledge that facilitates getting the injured
worker well as quickly as possible in addition to having
a better understanding of the information needed by all
parties involved in treating the injured worker.
Two years prior to the ACOEM guidelines being published
and implemented as the standard by which Occupational physicians
would be held accountable for their treatment recommendations
in California, Dr. Berg customized and implemented one of
the first electronic medical record (EMR) systems used in
the United States in Occupational medicine. This system provides
a professional and timely reporting mechanism from which
adjusters, nurse case managers and consulting physicians
can make appropriate clinical decisions regarding Healthline’s
treatment recommendations. This state of the art EMR facilitates
the delivery of healthcare to Healthline’s occupational
and private patient population. |
